Transdisciplinary research integrates knowledge through active collaboration across academic disciplines and with non-academic stakeholders. Being a transdisciplinary researcher implies more than raising awareness through scientific evidence, it is a unique approach to engaging with different ways of knowing the world and generating new knowledge to address societal challenges.

María José Sanz, BC3’s scientific director, has been elected member of the IPCC’s Task Force Bureau on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) for the next assessment cycle. Nominated by the Spanish Government, María José Sanz was elected to form part of the TFI. BC3’s scientific director is the second Spaniard to form part of the IPCC Bureau.

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), offers a 2-year full-time research assistant position within the Horizon research project ACCREU, Assessing Climate Change Risk in Europe. ACCREU aims to contribute to the just transition towards climate resilience in the EU, its Member States, and regions, by co-creating and co-delivering with a wide array of stakeholders, new knowledge and actionable insights that connect the challenges of adaptation and mitigation with the multiple and new challenges our society is facing.

Dr. Xabier Díaz de Otalora graduated with a thesis entitled “Sustainability assessment of key European dairy cattle production systems: System identification, analysis, and greenhouse gas and nitrogen emission mitigation” today at the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia. Díaz de Otalora’s thesis has been supervised by Prof. UZ. Dr. Barbara Amon and Dr. Agustin de Prado.
