Unai Pascual has been a member of the IPBES Global Assessment Management Committee and is one of the lead authors of the report, as the only Spanish lead author. The report is the first global assessment systematically covering the scientific research of the past 50 years and the knowhow of indigenous and local communities based on some 15,000 studies prepared by 145 world-renowned authors of scientific prestige from 50 different countries.

The Scientific Director of BC3, Prof. María José Sanz, is currently in Kyoto, Japan, in the IPCC discussion on the last new Methodology Report titled "Refinement of 2019 of the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories", within which she participates as the coordinator of leading author Agustin Prado, BC3 researcher.

The last Assessment report “Global Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services” of IPBES had huge impact at media, within scientific and citizenship impact. International, national and regional media interviewed Ikerbasque Profesor at BC3 Unai Pascual, one of the Lead Authors, as the only Spanish lead author. Prof. María José Sanz, BC3 Scientific Director, and Dr Agustín del Prado, centre researcher, have contributed respective inputs as coordinator and lead author in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use component of the report.
This last special IPCC report entitled “2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories" was approved at IPCC Plenary Session number 49, held in Kyoto, Japan from 8 to 13 May 2019.
