Research assistant – Switch project


The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), offers a full-time research assistant position within the Horizon research project SWITCH (Switching European food systems for a just, healthy and sustainable dietary transition through knowledge and innovation).

The overall of the project is to improve understanding of knowledge, accessibility and facilitation gaps that limit present large-scale adoption of sustainable and healthy diets among European citizens and to develop and demonstrate appropriate innovative solutions and tools to facilitate a just transition towards healthy and sustainable dietary behaviour at all levels considering the multifactor food system in EU. The research will be conducted at BC3 and in collaboration with other international research institutions.

The Research Assistant will contribute to the assessment of sustainability and nutritional aspects to take into account in the transition of agrifood system.

The selected person will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Inmaculada Batalla and Dr. Maria José Sanz, according to the needs of the project. The applicant is expected to comply with the standards of conduct and ethics imposed by the host institution (BC3).

In general, and for each of these activities, the selected person will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Manage of databases and extraction of statistical data.
  • Participation in the preparation and implementation of different activities of the project in a food Hub based in the Basque Country.
  • Participation in the elaboration of deliverables for the European Commission.
  • Progressively, publish peer-reviewed research in international scientific journals.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in the field related to the project

Other relevant skills:

  • Experience in database management.
  • Experience or interest in agrifood systems dynamics.
  • Experience in environmental assessment in agrifood sector: LCA, modelling, other relevant methodologies…
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) in English.
  • Flexibility to collaborate in existing research projects.
  • Interested in develop a scientific career.
  • Desire to work in a diverse and multi-disciplinary research environment.

Term of contract

 The position will be for one year with a possibility for extending it until the end of the project (December 2026) upon a positive assessment of the performance. The envisaged starting date is 1st November, 2023.
