BC3 researcher Sérgio H. Faria joins the IPCC expert group to prepare the Sixth Evaluation Report

Sérgio H. Faria, Ikerbasque Professor at the Basque Centre for Climate Change, BC3, was selected by the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, to contribute to the Sixth Evaluation Report. In 2022, this will help member countries to assess progress on the Paris Agreements in 2015.

Ikerbasque reasearcher in BC3, Unai Pascual, one of the international experts who approved the IPBES biodiversity report, at a major UN conference for Biodiversity later this year

BC3 investigator, Unai Pascual, takes part in the last approved of the IPBES biodiversity report, at a major UN conference for Biodiversity later this year. After almost three years investigating on the current situation of biodiversity in the world, the last IPBES report was approved last week in Medellin, Colombia by the governments of 129 member nations. The study aims to provide a knowledge base for global action on biodiversity, following examples such as that from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, whose knowledge is used by policymakers to set carbon emission targets.

The Spanish Association Assembly for the Energy Economics has chosen new governing board. Ibón Galarraga Gallastegi as main president, and Mikel González-Eguino as vice president of participation.

The Spanish Association Assembly for the Economic Energy has chosen as president and vice president of participation BC3s investigating research professor. The new presidential pass to Ibón Galarraga Gallastegi and vice presidential participation to Mikel González-Eguino. The congress in turn, awarded different awards to new investigator generation of BC3, such as, Xaquin García Muros, Jon Sampedro and Dirk-Jan Van de Ven.

The Basque Center for Climate Change´s (BC3) researcher, Ignacio Palomo, just published in the prestigious Scientific Journal, Nature, a correspondence under the title of "Test climate targets using fragile ecosystems".

Prof. Markandya one of International Adaptation experts authoring the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report 2017

UNEP’s Adaptation Gap Report series focuses on Finance, Technology and Knowledge gaps in climate change adaptation. It compliments the Emissions Gap Report series, and explores the implications of failing to close the emissions gap.The report builds on a 2014 assessment by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which laid out the concept of ‘adaptation gaps’ and outlined three such gaps: technology, finance and knowledge.

Research by BC3 researchers, Iñaki Arto and Anil Markandya, mentioned in Juncker’s State of the Union address of 13 Sep 2017 “Every additional €1 billion in exports supports 14,000 extra jobs in Europe”

Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, in his State of the Union of 13 September 2017, has referred for the second consecutive year to the report “EU Exports to the World: Effects on Employment and Income” authored by BC3 researchers, Dr. Iñaki Arto and Prof. Anil Markandya.

The Scientific Director of BC3, Prof.Maria Jose Sanz and Dr. Agustin del Prado, Senior researcher at BC3, participated in the IPCC "Second Lead Author Meeting for the Elaboration of the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories", that tool place in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (25 Sep - 28 Sep 2017).

Keynote by Prof.Unai Pascual on values and motivations for biosphere stewardship in the “Resilience Frontiers for Global Sustainability Conference”

Biosphere stewardship is about humans recognizing that they are part of and indeed dependent on the biosphere to maintain their own well-being. When humans recognize that, they are also responsible for the sustainable use and protection of the living systems we depend on. But what kind of knowledge systems, values, management practices, behaviour and governance arrangements could help foster this biosphere stewardship? Ikerbasque Professor Unai Pascual from the Basque Centre for Climate Change offered his views on the issue. He highlighted the benefits of incorporating relational values in ecosystem assessments.
