“Health and Climate Change”

Aline Chiabai, Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3)

29 April, 12.00h Online

Population health is being shaped by forces such as demographic ageing, rapid urbanization, environmental degradation and the globalization of unhealthy lifestyles, leading to a situation where non-communicable chronic diseases have overtaken infectious diseases as the leading cause of mortality and morbidity, becoming a new epidemic. In addition, in a scenario of increased risks due to new emergent infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and other threats posed by climate change, population already debilitated by these pre-existent chronic conditions will not be resilient in future scenarios.

In this context, there is a need to further delve into the complex relationships between health, wellbeing, environmental sustainability and economics, and propose some reflections on how to integrate concepts and knowledge in these fields towards a more holistic approach.

Acerca de Aline Chiabai
