One PhD position at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3)

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) in collaboration with the Institute for Environmental Technology Science (ICTA) (the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability more specifically) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, (UAB) and the Green Lab of the Centre for Environmental Studies of Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, offers a 3-year PhD research fellowship. The PhD position is part of a research project concerning the plurality of values of urban biodiversity.

Modeling trade-offs across carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and equity in the distribution of global REDD+ funds

The program on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) is one of the major attempts to tackle climate change mitigation in developing countries. REDD+ seeks to provide result-based incentives to promote emission reductions and increase carbon sinks in forest land while promoting other cobenefits, such as the conservation of biodiversity.

Mikel Gonzalez-Eguino, investigador Senior de BC3 - Basque Centre for Climate Change: Klima Aldaketa Ikergai, junto a Ricardo Pedraz, consultor de Afi, ha escrito una tribuno de opinión titulado " La burbuja financiera de las energías fósiles" en Cinco Días. En este artículo los investigadores Gonzalez-Eguino y Pedraz analizan las inversiones actuales en energía y la inestabilidad financiera que podría ocasionar si no se cambia el sistema para incrementar la inversión en energías renovables y reducir en energías fósiles.

BC3 participate in a new study on the contribution of land use to the mitigation of climate change in the future

The prestigious journal Nature Climate Change has just published a report on the role of land use in mitigating climate change and how this should be extensively applied to prevent the increase in global temperature. This study indicates which measures on forests, agriculture and food systems may be critical.
