Assessing Uncertainties and Risks in the Transition to Low Carbon and Sustainable Societies
3rd and 4th July 2017
Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), Bilbao, Spain.
Objective of the Workshop:
The TRANSrisk research project is in its equator and is preparing to focus on one of its main goals: understanding synergies and trade-offs between different energy transition pathways and identifying the main uncertainties and risks associated. In this workshop, we will take stock of what we have learned so far – especially in relation with stakeholder engagement processes (WP2) and the implications of different transition pathways (WP4). The main objective of the workshop is to coordinate our efforts and to use the different existing pathways through a risk and uncertainty lens (WP5) and also for implementing these pathways and transferring this information into the cases studies (WP3). For this purpose, a selected list of contributions from partners will be presented and discussed. In preparation for this, partners should start thinking on transition pathways for their case studies and on the main risks (barriers, negative outcomes) and uncertainties associated with them. We will also discuss and design the different inter-model comparison exercises that will take place in TRANSrisk (in WP6 and WP7). Finally, we will also dedicate specific time to discuss three dissemination activities proposals: a book, a special issue for a scientific journal and a potential joint-paper (or comment/letter in a top journal) with TRANSrisk’s partners.
Format of the Workshop:
The workshop is meant to provide an internal discussion for TRANSrisk partners and plan joint outputs/papers. Researchers from other related H2020 project (MEDEAS and CARISMA).
The workshop will last two days: a full day meeting the 3rd of July (9-17.30h) and a half-day meeting (9-14h) the 4th. It will take place at BC3 offices in Bilbao (Edificio Sede, Parque Científico de UPV/EHU, Leioa).
