Being able to rely on scientific evidence and tools to manage forecasts is a key factor to improving the status of nature on the planet and to protecting and using ecosystems sustainably, so vital for modern-day and future societies. For a long time, the scientific community has gathered local information on the benefits that nature contributes to population groups and, for the first time, an international group of researchers has created an interactive world map on the benefits of nature worldwide.

Unai Pascual, investigador Ikerbasque en Basque Centre for Climate Change y co-autor del último informe de IPBES, ha participado en la jornada "Prosperidad sin Naturaleza" en Barcelona, una jornada organizada por la comisión de Economía y Sostenibilidad del Colegio de Economistas de Cataluña, el Departamento de Territorio y Sostenibilidad, el Consejo Asesor para el Desarrollo Sostenible ( CADS), el Centro de Investigación Ecológica y Aplicaciones Forestales (Creaf) y el Centro Tecnológico Forestal de Cataluña (CTFC). El investigador destacó la necesidad de ir hacia una economía verde y enfocarnos hacia un nuevo modelo económico. "Se deben fomentar nuevos valores en la economía que vayan más allá de la productividad", aseguró, y remarcó la necesidad de poner énfasis en la biodiversidad, porque, como dijo, "está muy lejos de tener la relevancia que debería tener ".

According to the researcher, it is still too early to draw conclusions about the health of our planet. La biodiversidad esta en el punto de mira desde que el último informe de IPBES, elaborado por 145 expertos de 50 países, alertó de la desaparición de más de un millón de especies. Unai Pascual, uno de los investigadores del informe e investigador Ikerbasque en BC3 - Basque Centre for Climate Change, ha sido entrevistado en el especial de El Mundo, Plan A, futuro de la tierra, donde ha hablado sobre el papel que tiene la biodiversidad en el futuro del planeta y que sucedería si el ser humano no fuera capaz de preservarlo.
