BC3 Journal Article: From principles to practice in paying for nature’s services

Payments for Environmental Services (PES) constitute an innovative economic intervention to counteract the global loss of biodiversity and ecosystem functions. In theory, some appealing features should enable PES to perform well in achieving conservation and welfare goals. In practice, outcomes depend on the interplay between context, design and implementation. Inspecting a new global dataset, we find that some PES design principles pre-identified in the social-science literature as desirable, such as spatial targeting and payment differentiation, are only partially being applied in practice.

IPS Correspondent Tharanga Yakupitiyage interviews Unai Pascual, one of the co-chairs of Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) about the importance of understanding the complex of the degradation of soil and land, is affecting one-third of the Earth’s land surface. The issue already affects 250 million people across the world, and it threatens an additional one billion people who depend on land for their needs.

Unai Pascual, Ikerbasque ikerlaria BC3n, Ahoz Ahon izan da Brexit eta ingurumenaren inguruan hitz egiten. Brexitak ingurumenean izan dezakeen eragina aztertu du Unai Pascual ikerlariak. Theresa Mayren proposamenean ez dago ingurugiroari erreferentzia egiten dion helburu zehatzik.Hala ere, Pascualen ustetan Erresuma Batuak Klima Aldaketan ezarritako helburuak beteko dituela uste du.

Entrevista a Unai Pascual, investigador de BC3, en el programa “Más que Palabras” de Radio Euskadi

Unai Pascual ha sido entrevistado en el programa de Radio Euskadi "Más que Palabras" el domingo pasado, 10 de febrero. El cambio climático como hilo conductor, Pascual a hablado de la situación actual del clima, la crisis climática y los fenómenos climáticos que están sucediendo en los Estados Unidos, con fríos extremos y en Australia, con el calor extremo.
