A raíz de la conferencia internacional sobre el cambio climático Change the Change celebrada en San Sebastián a principios del mes de marzo de 2019 Mikel Gonzalez Eguino, investigador de BC3 y coordinador de la linea Low Carbon ha sido entrevistado por el medio digital BI FM junto a Ana Urrutia, presentadora de Eguraldia de EITB. Durante la entrevista Urrutia y Gonzalez-Eguino han recalcado que el cambio climático es un hecho y que hay que conseguir concienciar a las personas.

I will introduce the framework of leverage points, i.e. places to intervene in a complex system that bring transformative change, to identify interventions that can promote sustainable management of nature’s contributions to people. I will specifically focus on the so called deep leverage points, which have exceptional potential to yield truly transformative change towards sustainability.

• In this lecture, I will examine my own role, as a researcher, in advancing a progressive agenda that responds to an urgent climate change challenge. I will explore the tensions between experimental forms of action-research, policy-oriented research, and curiosity-led research and the way in which these different forms of thinking have shaped my research agenda as I have attempted to respond to what I believe is the most important challenge of our times: enabling life in a climate changed future.”

Woody encroachment is a widespread phenomenon resulting from the abandonment of mountain agricultural and pastoral practices during the last century. As a result, forests have expanded, increasing biomass and necromass carbon (C) pools. However, the impact on soil organic carbon (SOC) is less clear. The main aim of this study was to investigate the effect of woody encroachment on SOC stocks and ecosystem C pools in six chronosequences located along the Italian peninsula, three in the Alps and three in the Apennines.
