• BC3, together with 23 Basque entities, will organise the 7th edition ofEmakumeak Zientzian, after signing a new collaboration agreement.

• The main objective of this initiative is to make it clear that science is for girls.

BC3 will participate in the Emakumeak Zientzian initiative with the event“Training Caravan – Women and girls in Climate Change”, on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is celebrated every year on 11 February. The day will consist of a round table broadcast online from BC3. Two female scientists working on climate change will talk about their personal and professional experiences.

BC3 will also participate in the event aimed at the general public “Women scientists of yesterday and today”, which is organized within the framework of Emakumeak Zientzian, with a short talk by a researcher from the centre in which she will talk about her career and introduce a historical scientist.

In addition, BC3, through the signing of a new collaboration agreement with 23 other entities, thus ratifies its commitment to the objectives of the initiative: to make the activity of women in science visible, to break with the typically male roles attributed to scientific-technical activities and to promote the choice of scientific careers among girls and adolescents.

This union is the result of an initiative –Emakumeak zientzian– of ‘open doors’ with a unifying vocation and it is clear that we are better if we join forces. Thus, thanks largely to the involvement and dedication of dozens of professionals in the field of science and technology (researchers, university lecturers, engineers, etc.), the organisers are already working on the design of more than 50 activities so that the message that ‘science is for girls’ reaches the greatest possible number of people. The full programme will be announced on 18 January, when registration will be open.

It should be noted that during the past year, the Emakumeak Zientzian initiative has won the 1st STEAM Euskadi prize and the special mention for gender perspective in the category of Most Innovative STEAM Education Initiative promoted by other entities, awarded by the Department of Education of the Basque Government and Innobasque, as well as the recognition of the City Council of San Sebastian through Fomento San Sebastian during the 9th edition of the Innovation Week.

In addition to BC3, the 23 entities that have signed the agreement for the joint organisation of the 7th edition of Emakumeak Zientzian are an important representative sample of the science and technology fabric in the Basque Country: the Centre for Materials Physics (CFM CSIC-UPV/EHU), Achúcarro, CIC biomaGUNE, CIC nanoGUNE, University of Deusto, POLYMAT, Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM), Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL), Biodonostia, Ceit, Cidetec, Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), Elhuyar, Eureka! Zientzia Museoa, Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia (FBB), Ikerlan, Ingeniariak – Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Industriales de Gipuzkoa, Parques Tecnológicos de Euskadi, Tecnalia, Tecnun-Escuela de Ingenieria, the Faculty of Computer Science, the School of Engineering of Gipuzkoa and the Faculty of Chemistry of the UPV/EHU.
