Sérgo H. Faria is participating in the EastGRIP 2018 field season from 21 July to 11 August 2018. His main task will be to supervise the ice-core line-scan operations. BC3 is the only research institution in the Iberian Peninsula participating directly in this ambitious project. This has been made possible thanks to the close collaboration of BC3 with the Japanese EastGRIP Team, in particular with the Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) and the National Institute for Polar Research (NIPR), in Tokyo.

Unai Pascual (Vitoria-Gasteiz 1973), ha sido nombrado copresidente de evaluación de los valores de la naturaleza del IPBES, el organismo intergubernamental auspiciado por las Naciones Unidas, compuesto por 130 gobiernos estatales que, desde su creación en 2012, proporciona a los responsables de diseñar políticas públicas la evidencia científica y otros tipos de conocimiento para mejorar el estado de la naturaleza del planeta, así como herramientas y métodos para proteger y utilizar de forma sostenible estos activos naturales vitales para todas las sociedades, actuales y del futuro.

Azken egunetan izandako uholdeen eta klima aldaketen inguruan aritu da Ibon Galarraga, BC3ko ikertzailea, ETBko Gaur egun eta Teleberrin. Galarragak klima aldaketaren inguruan espero duguna gertatzen ari dela azpimarratu du. Baita, honelako gertakariak geroz eta larriago eta normalekoak izango dira jakinarazi du. Izan ere, geruza bat sortzen ari da gure atmosfera, eta hor sartzen den beroak irteteko geroz eta aukera gutxiago du.

Sérgio H. Faria, researcher at the Basque Centre for Climate Change, is one of the four Spanish scientists that have participated in the Working Group I (WGI) First Lead Author Meeting (LAM1) in Guangzhou, China. This meeting marks the start of IPCC researchers’ joint work towards the completion of the WGI Report in 2021.

La Agencia Estatal de Investigación ha anunciado la concesión de la acreditación “María de Maeztu” a BC3, Basque Centre for Climate Change, en reconocimiento de la calidad y el nivel de excelencia de la investigación que desarrolla. El comité de evaluación ha resaltado que “la investigación multidisciplinar desarrollada por BC3 es un ejemplo de lo que las ciencias naturales deberían de implementar en el futuro”.

We are holding a 2 days meeting in BC3 with Fran Lambrick, co-founder of the NGO Not1More (N1M) and two researchers from Sussex University, Sustainability Research Programme: Mika Pech and Mery Menton.The objective of the meeting is to develop tools for modelling and predicting risk to environmental defenders and find ways for sharing our innovative technology.

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) is looking for candidates who can support its strategic activities related to integrated data science and collaborative, integrated modeling on the semantic web. The selected candidates will contribute to the ARIES (ARtificial Intelligence for Ecosystem Services) project powered by the k.LAB software stack, a semantic web infrastructure that uses artificial intelligence to build computational solutions to environment, policy and sustainability problems.
