BC3 restarts its ecomeetings, an initiative that was paused during the pandemic and that will be coordinated by Ikerbasque researchers at BC3 Ainhoa Magrach and Daniel Montoya. Ecomeetings are monthly meetings where ecologists and other researchers related to the subject can meet to talk about the latest advances in the discipline.

Anil Markandya, Ikerbasque distinguished professor and BC3 former director, has been ranked #12 in Spain among Best Scientists for 2023 of Research.com in the discipline of Economics and Finance.

BC3 has recently joined the four-year project NBSOIL, which stands for Nature-Based Solutions for Soil Management. NBSOIL, which officially kicked off last December 12, is coordinated by the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation (IUNG-PIB), along AgriSat Iberia, Instituto Técnico Agronómico Provincial de Albacete (ITAP) and REVOLVE.

New technology, such as cloud computing, remote sensing and artificial intelligence (AI) can play an important role in sustainable agriculture, optimizing resources, providing key spatial-temporal information and identifying the most appropriate and effective practices for better management.

Siguiendo nuestra iniciativa “Mujeres y niñas en la ciencia del cambio climático” del año pasado, BC3 organizá dos webinars el 13 de febrero de 2023, uno en inglés (10h) y otro en euskara (11h), para celebrar el Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia, y como parte de la iniciativa Emakumeak Zientzian.

María José Sanz, directora científica de BC3, ha sido nombrada asesora del Comité Científico Asesor del Consejo Vasco de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación. La directora científica de BC3 trabajará junto a otros nueve destacados especialistas del ámbito público y académico.

BC3 ha recibido la distinción de Entidad Colaboradora para la Igualdad de Mujeres y Hombres otorgada por el Instituto Vasco de la Mujer - Emakunde, organismo autónomo del Gobierno Vasco que diseña, promueve, asesora, coordina y evalúa las políticas de igualdad.

BC3 participará en la iniciativa Emakumeak Zientzian con el evento “Training Caravan – Women and girls in Climate Change”, con motivo del Día Internacional de la Mujer y la Niña en la Ciencia, que se celebra cada año el 11 de febrero.

El investigador de BC3 Mikel González-Eguino ha obtenido la posición de Ikerbasque Research Professor por su destacada trayectoria científica. La investigación de González-Eguino tiene como objetivo apoyar la toma de decisiones para acelerar la transición hacia una economía baja en carbono, sostenible y que promueva la justicia social.

The new BC3 EU-funded project Biodiversity and Transformative Change for plural and nature positive societies (BIOTraCes) which has just begun aims to boost biodiversity across Europe. To tackle nature-related, societal and local policy issues, researchers will perform nine case studies across Europe.
