BC3 and Emakumeak Zientzian: Promoting women in climate research

BC3 organised multiple events this year on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, in collaboration with the Basque initiative supporting women in STEAM Emakumeak Zientzian. The activities aimed to make the role of female researchers more visible and to encourage future generations to follow the same career path.

On the 16th and the 21st of February, BC3 organised two webinars  in English and Basque, respectively. Researchers Carmen G. Köhler and Sudeshna Kumar led the first session, in which each one spoke in depth about different ways to be part of the research universe and the importance of having supportive figures, moderated by researcher Rebecca Blevins. The session in Basque, moderated by Marta Pascual, featured the story of Estibaliz Baroja, who instilled the need to follow your passion.

In addition, researchers Neus Escobar and Clàudia Rodés visited the IES Luís Briñas BHI high school in Bilbao where they spoke about the career and challenges of women researchers, climate change, its impacts, and the work of BC3 to combat them.

Last but not least, researcher Maria Loroño was featured in a one-minute video produced by Emakumeak Zientzian where she explained her work in the IMAGINE Adaptation project and her commitment to achieving a fair climate adaptation for all.
