Researcher Anil Markandya selected as the winner of the 9th Venus International Research Award (VIRA 2023)

Dr. Anil Markandya, Ikerbasque Distinguished Professor at BC3, has been selected as the recipient of the 9th Venus International Research Award (VIRA 2023) for lifetime achievement in the area of Environmental Economics research. The Venus International Award recognizes individuals for their quality, reliability and competence in the application of knowledge and skills to carry out specific tasks.

“I am very pleased to be recognized for my contributions in the area of environmental economics over a period of more than 30 years.  Ideas developed in the 1980s and 1990s and regarded as outside the mainstream have now become a major field in economics. They are also being applied at the policy level all over the world. This award along with others recognizes I have contributed to that.”

Each year since 2020, this award is conferred to a remarkable researcher and faculty member for the exceptional contribution to fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights which have had an impact on their own discipline and beyond and cutting-edge achievements.
