Ecological Economist/Senior Director in the Global Change and Ecosystem Services group of the Science + Knowledge Division

Abstract

Dr. Rosimeiry Portela is an Ecological Economist/Senior Director in the Global Change and Ecosystem Services group of the Science + Knowledge Division at Conservation International (CI). She leads a small team of researchers working on a variety of biophysical and economics modeling techniques to estimate the provision, benefits and values of ecosystem services at multiple scales and across terrestrial and marine biomes. Working in collaboration with several CI Divisions, Field Offices and external research partners, every effort is made to ensure her scientific work on ecosystem services is policy and field-relevant.

Lecturer

 

Elements of Dr. Portela’s work include: spatial assessment and valuation of ecosystem service provision; supporting the development and application of ARIES – a web-based tool for assisting rapid ecosystem service assessment and valuation; supporting the development of the scientific framework of The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity – TEEB; supporting the implementation of the World Bank-led initiative Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services – WAVES). .

Dr. Portela´s seminar will address Conservation International’s research portfolio on mapping, valuation, planning and monitoring of ecosystem services, as well the organization experiences on conservation for their continuous provision.
