BC3 Webinar
Recent and ongoing research activities on spatial analysis of climate change impacts and adaptation

Prof. Carlo Giupponi

Professor and Coordinator of the ADAPT@VE Research Programme

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and FEEM

Abstract:

I will provide a few examples of research activities that aim to extract knowledge from climate modelling to inform and orient human activities, such as planning and investments. The examples have in common a spatially explicit approach and they adopt various sorts of data processing and modelling: from simple formulas of map algebra, to multi-criteria analysis, or agent based modelling.

About the Lecturer

I am Professor of Environmental and Applied Economics at the Department of Economics, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and coordinator of the ADAP@VE Research Programme at Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. My research activity focuses on sustainability science and global change, with specific interests for valuation methods, scenario analysis and the integrated  – economic, environmental and social – assessment of natural resources, at local to global scales. The most relevant methodological contributions are in the field of disciplinary integration, through the development of original methods and tools adopting participatory approaches, system dynamics and spatial analysis as means for supporting decisions of private companies and public bodies. Those contributions have been acknowledged in various ways, e.g. by the inclusion in the Reuters 2020 “Hot List” of the 1000 most influential authors in the field of climate studies. I have several responsibilities in academic institutions and elsewhere, including participations at boards of scientific journals (e.g. SESMO), associations and networks (e.g. Future Earth).
