Biosphere stewardship is about humans recognizing that they are part of and indeed dependent on the biosphere to maintain their own well-being. When humans recognize that, they are also responsible for the sustainable use and protection of the living systems we depend on. But what kind of knowledge systems, values, management practices, behaviour and governance arrangements could help foster this biosphere stewardship? Ikerbasque Professor Unai Pascual from the Basque Centre for Climate Change offered his views on the issue. He highlighted the benefits of incorporating relational values in ecosystem assessments.
El investigador de BC3, Unai Pascual, participa en el informe último aprobado sobre biodiversidad de la plataforma IPBES, en el marco de la próxima Convención sobre Diversidad de la ONU. Después de casi tres años de investigación sobre la situación actual de la biodiversidad en el mundo, el último informe de la plataforma IPBES fue aprobado por los gobiernos de 129 países miembros. El objetivo del estudio es proporcionar una base de conocimientos para la acción global en torno a la biodiversidad siguiendo algunos ejemplos como el del Panel Intergubernamental sobre el Cambio Climático de la ONU, cuyo conocimiento es aprovechado por responsables políticos para fijar los objetivos de emisiones de carbono.
