One PhD position at the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3)

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) in collaboration with the Institute for Environmental Technology Science (ICTA) (the Barcelona Lab for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability more specifically) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, (UAB) and the Green Lab of the Centre for Environmental Studies of Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, offers a 3-year PhD research fellowship. The PhD position is part of a research project concerning the plurality of values of urban biodiversity. The project, jointly sponsored by the Basque Government and the Vitoria-Gasteiz city council, aims at identifying the multiple values of urban biodiversity in general,  and the ways in which ‘relational values’ are articulated, in particular. The project would also focus on the role of recognizing and activating multiple values in urban planning towards more inclusive decision making. An important part of the work includes responsibility for design and implementation of fieldwork in the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz (European Green Capital 2012).

 

Required qualification

The successful candidate should hold a Master’s degree in environmental sciences, geography, urban planning, ecology or economics. Candidates must have solid quantitative (e.g., statistical, GIS) and/or qualitative skills, as well as excellent communication skills. Fluency in English is required and a working level of Spanish. A strong motivation, interest in environmental issues, understanding of urban planning and politics, and interdisciplinary collaboration and ability to work independently is also desirable.

Supervision

The successful candidate will be supervised at BC3 by Ikerbasque Research Professor Unai Pascual (BC3) in collaboration with ICREA research professor Isabelle Anguelovski (ICTA) and Dr. Aitor Albaina (Vitoria-Gasteiz Green Lab). The successful candidate will be registered as PhD student at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
