On-farm anaerobic digestion (AD) has been promoted due to its improved environmental performance, which is based on a number of life cycle assessments (LCA). However, the influence of site-specific conditions and practices on AD performance is rarely captured in LCA studies and the effects on C and N cycles are often overlooked. In this paper, a new model for AD (SIMSWASTE-AD) is described in full and tested against a selection of available measured data.
An integrated assessment of the potential of different management practices for mitigating specific components of the total GHG budget (N2O and CH4 emissions and C sequestration) of Mediterranean agrosystems was performed in this study. Their suitability regarding both yield and environmental (e.g. nitrate leaching and ammonia volatilization) sustainability, and regional barriers and opportunities for their implementation were also considered.
We will present the role that the education should have as a tool for mitigation and adaptation for Climate Change around the world and the challenges that arise for its effective implementation. We review three different aspects of the problem. The first is the role of education as a tool for adaptation and mitigation and the existing gap between expectations and reality. The second is the problems in the Spanish case related to the official curricula and the lack of good materials at the required scale to create a new generation with awarness and deep knowledge of the problem.
BC3 has an active roll at UPV/EHU courses since July 2009. In this edition of summer course of the University of the Basque Country, BC3, Basque Centre for Climate Change, co-organize two Summer Schools, BC3-UPV/EHU Summer School on Transformation, Adaptation and Mitigation for a 1.5 degree Global Warming, with UPV/EHU and Summer School on Environment Resistance to Antibiotics; the beginning of an apocalyptic scenario with Euskampus, Neiker Tecnalia and UPV/EHU, this July in Biscay.
