Planetary Health: A Balance between the Welfare of the Planet and that of Human Beings

December 11, 2019
Ágora – Green Zone COP25, IFEMA (Av. del Partenón, 5) Madrid.

15.30-17.00

ISGlobal will be present at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 25), in Madrid, from December 2 to 13, and will organise the parallel event “Planetary health: A balance between the welfare of the planet and that of humans”.

This panel discussion is included in the COP25 Green Zone programme and will feature:

  • Josep M. Antó, Scientific Director of ISGlobal
  • Andrew Haines, Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
  • Lela Mélon, Marie Curie Fellow at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF)
  • Cristina Narbona, Member of the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development
  • María José Sanz, Director of the Basque Center for Climate Change (BC3)
  • Gonzalo Fanjul, Director of Analysis at ISGlobal (moderator)

Among other issues, this round table is set to address the challenge of COP25: How do we contribute to a carbon-neutral and climate-resilient planet in 2050? It is one of the proposals chosen from more than 1,500 presented by public and private institutions.

Please note that the event will be in English without simultaneous translation. It will be broadcasted in streaming, on our website and social networks.

The assistance is free, but it is essential to register previously through this form.

Once the registration is completed, it will be necessary to obtain accreditation through the Ifema website in order to access the Green Zone, where the event will take place.

About Planetary Health

The study of planetary health is a new approach to generate knowledge on the interdependence between human activity and natural systems, such as water, air, earth or biodiversity, and its impact on people’s well-being. The fragile balance between one and the other requires an integrated and multidisciplinary commitment through the creation of networks and coalitions that advance the study of risks and the proposal of solutions and include all sectors involved, from academia to translation and impact on society. The Alliance for Planetary Health today includes more than 200 academic centres, NGOs and public entities.

Through an expert and multidisciplinary vision, our session will address this challenge by raising awareness of the concept of planetary health, establishing its link with the climate and SDG agenda, and proposing measures to carry it forward.
