Research Assistant – MASBIO project

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) is offering a 14 months full-time research assistant position in the MASBIO project. The selected candidate will contribute to the strengthening of the water cycle in El Mijares watershed, through the modeling of environmental and socio-economic factors, and the design and organization of workshops aimed at collective decision making with stakeholders. The result of the project will be a proposal to the regional government of la Comunitat Valenciana containing a set of sustainable land management measures that will assist in reducing erosion, promoting biodiversity, and fostering rural adaptation to climate change in the watershed. MASBIO will be carried out with the support of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Biodiversity Foundation.

Key responsibilities:

We are looking for candidates who can support the following activities:

  • Collecting information related to the biogeographic context and the current state of El Mijares watershed
  • Understand the social dimension of relevant stakeholders in the watershed and agree on various plausible socio-economic scenarios in a participatory way (workshops in Castelló de la Plana)
  • Develop interactive maps of the watershed with a set of possible future land-use scenarios using the k.LAB modeling platform

Main requirements:

  • Experience in the study of sustainability and climate change
  • Experience in participatory actions for knowledge co-production and collective decision making
  • Knowledge of landscape ecology
  • Knowledge of GIS
  • Master’s degree in the field related to the project or experience in consulting or applied research projects
  • Provable fluency in Spanish and English
  • Good oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural team

Term of contract
