Research Assistant – Additives for livestock systems

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) offers a full-time Research Assistant (RA) position for a period of 3 months.

Additives for livestock systems is a small project that feeds into the BC3 work currently carried out within the general subject of climate-neutrality in livestock systems. The main objective of the project relates to the prospective analysis of the role of additives on mitigating climate change. This will involve mainly literature review and analysis of the data reviewed.

The level of dedication in the different activities will vary throughout the contract period depending on the needs of the project and the established work schedule. This will be managed by the internal project coordinator at BC3.

The selected person will be responsible for (but not limited to):

– Review the state of the art, (including scientific and grey literature), of:

– existing trials involving the study of the use of additives in livestock as a measure to reduce methane emissions form ruminants’ fermentation.

– Creation of databases and technical analysis of the data collected.

– Contribute to the development of a written report and potentially a scientific article

– Contribute to develop materials for communicating the results to the relevant stakeholders.

The selected person will be physically located in Leioa (Bizkaia) at the UPV-EHU Science Park, at BC3 facilities. The selected person will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Agustin del Prado (project coordinator at BC3) and in close collaboration with Dr. Guillermo Pardo, according to the needs of the project. The applicant is expected to comply with the standards of conduct and ethics imposed by the host institution (BC3).

Experience / skills required:

  • Knowledge in biotechnology applied to climate change in livestock.
  • Experience in the desktop analysis of GHG mitigation measures at the animal level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field related to the project.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, demonstrable.
  • Demonstrable expertise in data meta-analysis and in the use of spreadsheets and word processors.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal and analytical skills.

Desirable experience / skills:

  • Experience on analysis of additives use to reduce CH4 emissions from ruminants
  • International experience

Envisaged Contract start date

Salary:

Annual gross salary is 24,000 EUR.
