BC3 campaign for the International day of Women and Girls in Science

BC3 researchers participated in various events on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science promoted by Emakumeak Zientzian with the aim of making the research activities of women researchers in STEAM careers visible and encouraging scientific vocation in secondary school students, especially female students.

Following the Women and Girls in Climate Change science initiative promoted by BC3 since 2021, two webinars were celebrated on 13 February 2023, one in English and the other in Basque. In the Basque session, moderated by researcher Eva Alonso, Marta Pascual and Jaione Ortiz de Zarate talked about their professional experience in academia,, while researchers Leticia Pérez and Elena Galán led the English session, which was moderated by researcher Estibaliz Baroja. These two webinars focused on the professional experiences of the women scientists in different research areas of the centre.

BC3 also participated in two other initiatives. On the one hand, Marta Pascual took part in the round table that opened the series of events dedicated to female researchers held in San Sebastian by Emakumeak Zientzian (see the picture below). On the other hand, Neus Escobar honoured the role of the researcher Elfriede Tungl: the first woman to obtain a doctorate in civil engineering, at the Women Scientists of Yesterday and Today conference, together with researchers from different research centres in Bizkaia.

Finally, researchers Yuwei Wu, Patricia Muñoz and Estibaliz Baroja explained in one minute their work and their motivation to follow a STEAM career, as part of a video campaign on social media.
