Celebrating the amazing women researchers at BC3 on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science!

Following our “Women and girls in climate change science” initiative from last year, BC3 will organize two open webinars on February 13, 2023, one in English (10am) and one in Basque (11am), to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, as part of the Emakumeak Zientzian initiative. Both sessions aim to show the wide range of opportunities that STEAM careers can offer to high school students, especially women, as the field still experiences a huge gender gap.

A group of BC3 women researchers will talk about their personal and professional experiences, the challenges they have faced and the importance of gender mainstreaming in science and tech. The Basque session will have researchers Marta Pascual and Jaione Ortiz de Zarate as main speakers and will be moderated by researcher Eva Alonso; while researchers Leticia Pérez and Elena Galán will lead the English webinar, which will be moderated by researcher Estibaliz Baroja.

Join us in spreading the word and building a brighter future for girls in research by registering for one or both webinars – a special surprise will await attendees at the end of both sessions!

BC3 will also take part in two more events. On the one hand, a round table with different women working in STEAM where researcher Marta Pascual will be one of the panelists. This event will take place on February 8 at 6 pm CET at Intxaurrondo Kultur Etxea in Donostia-San Sebastián. On the other hand, the “Women Scientists of Yesterday and Today” initiative, where MSCA researcher Neus Escobar will give a brief talk about her scientific path and present a historical scientist to the lay public on February 17 at 6 pm CET at Bidebarrieta library in Bilbao

Last but not least, researchers Yuwei Wu, Patricia Muñoz and Estibaliz Baroja will explain in one minute their daily work and their motivation to pursue a STEAM career, as part of a video campaign on social media that will kickoff on February 8 – stay tuned!

This event is organised within the framework of BC3 Responsible Science and Innovation Programme, as part of our Training Caravan (Ikertzaileak gelan) activities. Training Caravan is an ongoing outreach initiative that provides secondary school students with answers to core climate change issues based on the most rigorous current scientific understanding, awakens their scientific vocation and promotes the design of inclusive and sustainable science and innovation.
