BC3 is part of the Coordinating Panel of the Citizens’ Assembly for Climate

The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has approved the Ministerial Order to initiate the Citizens’ Assembly for Climate (ACC). The PCA will address the question “A safer and fairer Spain in the face of climate change» How do we do this?”.

Following the Declaration of Climate and Environmental Emergency in January 2020 and the recent passage of the State Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition in May 2021, a further step is taken to address one of the greatest challenges of the coming years: the climate crisis.

Specifically, the commitment to create the Citizens’ Assembly for Climate is enshrined in article 39.1 of the State Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition, where, among the commitments established, It includes strengthening existing participation mechanisms and ensuring in a structured way citizen participation in the decision-making process with a citizens’ assembly for the climate.

Order TED/1086/2021 of 29 September, establishing the composition, organization and functioning of the Citizens’ Assembly for Climate.

The Panel has a secretariat provided by the Spanish Climate Change Office, with support from the Biodiversity Foundation. They are part of the Coordinating Panel, BC3 Basque Centre for Climate Change and the Spanish Sustainable Development Network (REDS).
