KONTRAE – Research Assistant

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) offers a full-time Research Assistant (RA) position for a period of approximately 10 months, and with an initial evaluation period of 2 months.

KONTRAE

KONTRAE (KONTRa Antibiotikoekiko Erresistentzia) is a project funded by the Basque Government under ELKARTEK programme with the participation of eight entities (including BC3), in the Basque Country. The main objective of the project relates to the study the links between human health, livestock, food and the environment, in relation to antibiotic resistance. To this end, BC3, will contribute, among others, to establish the dimension of the problem in the Basque Country from a “One Health” approach and study stakeholder perceptions of the antibiotic resistance problem in a climate change context with an expecting increase of animal diseases (as COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2) and the impact of policies related to the reduction of antimicrobials in farmed animals and health care.

In general, and for each of these activities, the selected person will be responsible for (but not limited to):

– Review the state of the art, (including scientific and grey literature) of “One Health” approach

– Study of the competences and regulatory framework of antimicrobials use for livestock systems in the Basque Country.

– Prepare materials and support for the organization of surveys, focus groups and interviews for the perception analysis.

– Support in the creation of databases and technical analysis of the data collected.

– Contribute to the development of the deliverables and documents of the project.

– Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders, under the supervision of the task leaders.

– Assist in the internal coordination of BC3, as well as in the preparation of external dissemination materials.

The selected person will be physically located in Leioa (Bizkaia) at the UPV-EHU Science Park, at BC3 facilities. The selected person will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Inmaculada Batalla and Dr. Aline Chiabai, according to the needs of the project. The applicant is expected to comply with the standards of conduct and ethics imposed by the host institution (BC3).

Experience / skills required:

  • Knowledge of sustainability policies and climate change, as well as in health impacts of climate change.
  • Experience in the design of surveys and other methodological tools for social perception analysis.
  • Master’s degree in the field related to the project or applied research projects.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, demonstrable.
  • Demonstrable expertise in database management and in the use of spreadsheets and word processors.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural team.

Term of contract

The position will be for a period of 10 months, renewable, based on excellence in performance and with an initial evaluation period of 2 months.

Contract expected start date: March 1st, 2021.

Salary

Annual gross salary is 20,000 EUR.
