WHAT IS 100&CHANGE?
100&Change is a MacArthur Foundation competition for a $100 million grant to fund a single proposal that will make measurable progress toward solving a significant problem.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE $100 MILLION?
Some problems can’t be solved by grants of the size that foundations typically provide. According to The Foundation Center, the average size of a foundation grant was about $138,000 in 2012. By funding at a level far above what’s typical in philanthropy, we can address problems and support solutions that are radically different in scale, scope, and complexity. $100 million is a large enough sum to focus on a serious problem and its solution in a meaningful and lasting way.
WHAT KIND OF PROBLEM DO YOU WANT TO SOLVE?
We are open to any ideas that identify a single problem and its proposed solution. We expect most applications to be focused on domestic issues in the United States, but we welcome international applications as well from both non-profit and for-profit organizations (subject to the rules that govern private foundations). We hope to inspire a wide range of applications that propose real, measurable solutions to significant problems from any field or sector.
