Job Offer: General call for a roster for future upcoming positions – Health impacts of climate change and environmental risk factors

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) opens a call for a roster to fill future upcoming positions for Postdoc Fellows and Senior Scientists to conduct original research on health impacts of climate change and environmental risks, such as air pollution.

The position’s tasks will include:

  • The development of a methodological framework to analyse concurrent effects of extreme events and air pollution episodes on human health, as well as associated costs for the society and the public health system, taking into account regional differences and a number of relevant indicators.
  • Modelling projections of impacts and costs under future climate change scenarios, including geo-spatial analysis.
  • Performing statistical analysis of health data to identify anomalies and explore vulnerabilities for specific age groups.
  • Analysing acclimatization processes, epidemiological parameters and their variability in space and time.

 

Essential qualifications and skills

  • PhD in environmental sciences or environmental economics and demonstration of a track record of peer-reviewed publications as well as the ability to initiate and complete original research.
  • Strong background in mathematical modelling and/or statistical computing (multivariate time series analysis, data mining, processing spatial data…) and coding skills (STATA, R, GIS, and similar).
  • Expertise in health- and environmental impact assessment, economic valuation approaches/tools for public health and the environment.
  • Publications record, especially in peer reviewed publications.
  • Good interpersonal as well communication skills (both written and oral) in English and Spanish.
  • Sharing of information and continuous improvement in a cooperative atmosphere of constructive evaluation and learning, within multidisciplinary research teams.

Desirable qualifications and skills

  • Knowledge of literature at the intersections of environment, health and climate change.
  • Knowledge of epidemiology.

 

Term of contract

The position will be for a period of 12 months (with possible extension)
