Climate change is one of the main challenges to be faced by human beings in this century XXI. The main difficulty to tackle this challenge is that it is a very complex problem, i.e., there are many elements involved and interconnected among them. For this reason, it is practically impossible to take into account all these elements. Thus, we can only consider a "few key factors" in our studies. This "simplified" version of our environmental introduces a large amount of uncertainty. On the other hand, there are many process and phenomena (physical, chemical, biological, socio-economical, etc.) that are not well understood, which also introduces uncertainty. The quantification -or at least to be aware- of this uncertainty plays an important role in the climate change studies. Therefore, pressing need to improve our understanding of these uncertainties in order to face the consequences of climate change in our society.

BC3 Journal Article “The climatic dependencies of urban ecosystem services from green roofs: Threshold effects and non-linearity”

This paper proposes a methodology for quantifying benefits and costs of extensive green roofs as an urban strategy for adaptation to climate change. It seeks to highlight the consequences of threshold effects in the delivery of the benefits and non-linearity with respect to green roof coverage.

BC3 Journal Article “The ACER pollen and charcoal database: a global resource to document vegetation and fire response to abrupt climate changes during the last glacial period”

Quaternary records provide an opportunity to examine the nature of the vegetation and fire responses to rapid past climate changes comparable in velocity and magnitude to those expected in the 21st-century. The best documented examples of rapid climate change in the past are the warming events associated with the Dansgaard–Oeschger (D–O) cycles during the last glacial period, which were sufficiently large to have had a potential feedback through changes in albedo and greenhouse gas emissions on climate.

BC3 Journal Article “El papel del análisis por componentes principales en la evaluación de redes de control de la calidad del aire”

Nuevo artículo publicado por BC3 del investigador Josué Polanco. El ACP es utilizado en una amplia gama de aplicaciones en el estudio de fenomenos ambientales, desde el analisis de campos meteorol ́ogicos hasta en la evaluacion de redes de control y vigilancia de la calidad del aire (RCVCA). Hoy por hoy, es posible encontrar una buena cantidad de publicaciones en ingles sobre este último tipo de aplicaciones, pero hay una carencia de informacion en castellano.
